We told you about the launch of the first Samsung Android phone aka the i7500 Galaxy and the India Launch by Tata Docomo .Now here are some live pics of the Samsung Galaxy i7500 in the photo gallery below for your viewing pleasure and a short review.
The phone features a stunning 3.2 inch AMOLED display and sports a 320x480px resolution. The homescreen carries the same wallpaper as the OmniaHD. But since this phone is powered by the Android OS ( cupcake – v1.5) you will see the widgets like the google search and shortcuts to other apps. The phone comes loaded with the Google apps like Gmail , Youtube , Google Maps and watching Videos on the AMOLED screen is a treat.
On the front you have the physical keys located below the display. The Menu and Call button are present on the left.Home , Back and Call end keys are present on the right . There is OK button in the middle of the D-pad which acts like a joystick.
On the back you would find the 5 MP Camera with LED Flash.
On the right side of the phone you would find the lock key and camera button.
On the top you would find the microUSB port which can be used for data-transfer and charging. There is a nice 3.5 mm audio jack next to it .
On the left you have the volume rocker keys.
The handset comes with 8GB of inbuilt memory and a microSD expansion slot
The 5 Megapixel Camera did take some great pictures but the video quality was poor ( Since we tested only a Prototype , we were not allowed to publish the samples here.)
The UI is the standard Android interface and there is not much customization like in the HTC Hero. The interface looks same as the HTC G1 [specs]
Conclusion
The phone is the world’s thinnest Android phone and is packed with features. But the build quality is not as good as other Samsung handsets like the OmniaHD. The keys are not too easy to handle especially the D-pad. We can’t complain about onscreen keyboard which was very responsive due the capacitive touchscreen. The HTC Hero looks much more interesting than the Galaxy to us considering the similar price tags. But you can consider the Galaxy if you are interested in the HTC Magic. We are sad to see that most Android phones have the poor battery life. HTC G1 ‘s battery life was so pathetic that T-Mobile issued a replacement battery in the USA. Even though the Galaxy packs a 1500 mAh battery, the phone barely stayed alive for a day. You need to keep poking at the settings and turning things on and off to make the best out of the battery. At a price of Rs.29000 the Galaxy does not give much value for money unless you are looking for the Slimmest Android phone.
