Yahoo acquires Bignoggins, QWiki as part of latest acquisition round

Yahoo has been on a spending spree lately and has acquired quite a few startups with its latest acquisition being Bignoggins Productions, an app development firm that makes iOS applications.

The only employee at the company is the founder, Jerry Shen, who says that his technology will be embedded into Yahoo’s products. Bignoggins had two applications, Fantasy Monster and Draft Monster on the App Store and Google Play Store. Yahoo has pulled both the applications from the stores and will be incorporating the technology into their official Fantasy Sports products. The terms of the deal haven’t been revealed but considering the popularity of the products, it is probable that Shen has scored a very good deal from Yahoo.

Additionally, Yahoo has also acquired Qwiki which is a video sharing startup. The acquisition cost Yahoo about $50 million. The application combines filters, transitions, soundtracks to create stories and offers a vine like social networking component as well. The purchase should help Yahoo keep abreast of Facebook and Twitter that provide similar services via Instagram and Vine respectively.
