Review: Adaptxt Keyboard

The flexibility of Android means that it is possible to tweak and replace most software components of your phone. The keyboard is no exception and players like Swype, Swiftkey have been known to offer compelling alternatives. When Adaptxt approached us to check out their take on the ubiquitous keyboard, we decided to put it through its paces. Check out our review below.

Adaptxt is designed to be modular in nature and allows you to plug in themes, new languages and more. At first start up you’ll be asked to download a language pack. In addition to the basic packs, the application also allows you to download premium dictionaries that are aligned towards a certain domain which is one of the USPs of Adaptxt. In practice we found these themed dictionaries like Medical, Finance, Business in additional to others offered a lot of value to users in that line of work. Because those packs prioritize terms specific to that domain in stead of more commonly used words, it allows for faster prediction and text input.

Customization options include the essentials but not much else. You can ‘Auto Captialize’ and ‘Auto Correct’ the text that has been input. This is right in line with other keyboards.

While most of the competition does offer a few built in themes to customize the keyboard to your liking, Adaptxt goes a step further and allows you to buy and install themes that can draw inspiration all the way from St.Patrick’s Day to Holi.

In our usage experience we found the prediction to be almost as good as our favorite Swiftkey. We weren’t fans of the default look of the keyboard but Adaptxt makes this easy to customize. While it might not make you ditch your current keyboard, if you type a lot of text from a specialized domain like Medicine, Law or Business amongst others, you should definitely check out the app as it’ll make your life just a bit more easier. You can download Adaptxt from the Play Store.
