The Nokia Lumia 1020 just arrived at FoneArena today and guess what, we managed to get hold of a unlocked unit from a US retailer. The device is currently exclusive sold only on AT&T in USA and Nokia is yet to launch the SIM-free/unlocked version in USA or any other market but how can you get one ? Read on to find out. This is indeed the Lumia 1020 for AT&T with the carrier branding but the good thing is it can accept any GSM SIM card, be it T-Mobile, Airtel or Vodafone. This supports LTE on AT&T but would work over 3G, HSPA in many countries including India. The device has evolved from the 808 PureView which was running on Symbian and subsequently the Lumia 920 which was one of the first Windows phones with a PureView camera. Today we have a combination of the best of the imaging from the 808 and 920, improved leaps and bounds, and delivered in the form of the Lumia 1020. So go ahead and watch the first unboxing of the Lumia 1020 camera phone in India only on FoneArena –

Box Contents
Considering this is a device selling at an US operator , the contents are pretty ordinary, with the earphones being a no-show. A lot of surprises from Nokia though, like the box including a complimentary voucher for printing a poster. Nokia did hand out small posters of images shot on the Lumia 1020 at the launch event in New York last month, as you saw from the video above. Fast forward one month and we have our own 1020, which is super exciting.
- Lumia 1020 with 32GB inbuilt storage
- 2000 mAh sealed battery
- Wrist Strap
- AC adpater
- microUSB cable
- microSIM ejector tool
- Quick start guide and other promotional material.
The front of the phone is pretty similar to the 920 and barely different, but the real story is on the rear. But you do get a decent 4.5 inch AMOLED display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 sporting a resolution of 1280x768pixels. You have the standard windows phone keys below the display. The back is the new front for sure as the Nokia Lumia 1020 has most of its magic on the rear, with the monstrous 41 MP camera along with a xenon flash and a LED focus assist lamp. In terms of the internals, there is a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 MSM8960 dual core 1.5GHz processor along with 2GB of RAM to tackle the 41MP camera and image processing(I think). The 1020 runs on the Windows Phone 8 with the Amber update, so it has various useful improvements like – double tap to wake the device up and more.
The phone is noticeably lighter than the 920 and the arrangement on the back for the camera does not protrude too much. The matte finish adds a great feel to the device and makes it finger print resistant and at the same time, less slippery. The pins(two dots) you notice are for wireless charging cover, which brings the wireless charging capability since it is not available out of the box, on the 1020.
This is truly one hell of a camera along with a smart phone and not the other way around. Manual controls for ISO, exposure, focus, white balance, shutter speed are ones which you generally find only on professional cameras normally, but are now available on a phone. This is all thanks to the bundled Nokia Pro Cam app which is exclusive to the 1020 as of now but is coming soon to devices such as the 925 and 920 in the near future.
We are surely going to check out the camera of the Lumia 1020 in detail over the next few days. It is suffice to say that the images look so good that you might want to click a picture of everything around you!
