Earlier this year Samsung announced the Galaxy S4 and then, to compete against the waterproof Sony Xperia Z, they introduced the Galaxy S4 Active. The S4 Active is a durable version of the Galaxy S4, with a thicker design and IP67 dust and water resistance. Traditionally durable smartphones have come with less-than-stellar specs lists but the Galaxy S4 Active aims to buck this trend.
Is the Galaxy S4 Active actually waterproof though? We put it to the test in our Galaxy S4 Active Underwater Test:

Up front is a 5 inch Full HD 1080p screen along with a 2MP front facing camera that records 1080p Full HD video. The Galaxy S4 Active is powered by a Quad-core 1.9GHz Krait 300 CPU with Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 chipset whilst 2GB RAM, 16GB storage and a microSD card slot also make it on board.
The key difference between the Galaxy S4 Active and other waterproof smartphones is that at a glance, the S4 Active looks like a normal smartphone. Samsung claim to have perfected waterproofing so that you can pop off the back cover, take out the battery or insert a microSD card and replace the back cover and the Galaxy S4 Active will still have its waterproof features. The Sony Xperia Z comes with covers for each port (SIM, microSD and USB) whilst the Galaxy S4 Active only has a cover for the microUSB port.
