BlackBerry announced that their BBM service will be coming to Android and iOS way back in March and only now have they given a date for the arrival of a cross-platform BBM. At launch, BlackBerry’s BBM will come with various features such as Chats, Groups and file sharing. Other features such as BBM channels are expected to be added up in future updates by the end of the year. Just like BB users, every user will be given a PIN which they can share instead of giving away their phone numbers.
For Android users, BBM will be available from September 21st and only users on Android 4.0 and higher will be able to download it. For iOS users, BBM will be available from September 22nd and only those on iOS 6 and iOS 7 will be able to download it. Currently, BlackBerry has nearly 60 million customers on BlackBerry platform and it hopes that the number will increase steadily once its available across platforms. There is no word yet on BBM availability for Windows Phone.
