Two pictures of a purported Nokia Smartwatch have leaked onto the internet. Could this be announced at the Nokia World event on the 22nd of October, or is it just some long forgotten prototype? We all know that the wearable gadget revolution is here. Google brought its Glass into the limelight with a firm vision(pun intended) on the future, Pebble made its Smartwatch, followed by Samsung with its Galaxy Gear and Sony with its second version of its pioneering Smartwatch. With the leak, it looks like even Nokia, which is all ready to get acquired by Microsoft, has or had its own plans for a wearable gadget.
Remember the Nokia Morph concept? The bendable screens and the concept of a wearable gadget is not unknown to one of the largest R&D units in the world, as they have shown off the same with several working prototypes earlier. The innovations were always there, but as times have shown, they have always been restricted to the labs. But this is the first time we are seeing a Nokia branded device that at least looks like a watch.
The black strap shown in the image above has uneven holes, which makes one believe they are definitely some sort of a prototype, while the sides show off the curved polycarbonate housing the leaked device is supposedly based on. We know that Microsoft definitely has plans for a Smartwatch, so, will the company continue with this development, or is it just some long lost prototype that Nokia was working on, even before the Windows Phone deal happened? We don’t have much info to support any of the theories but if Nokia, or Microsoft indeed make plans to bring this concept to fruition with right execution, things could get more interesting in the wearables space.
