HTC headed for its first loss in history

HTC has not been having the best of days ever since the market took a turn from feature phones to touch-screen smartphones. HTC went with Android and Windows Phone(mostly Android) as its choice of platform for its devices and there were some good products like the HTC One. Despite good products, HTC has not been able to live up to reputation it once used to have and now, for the first time since 2002 when the Taiwanese company went public, HTC is looking at a loss in a quarter.

Over the years, HTC has witnessed a gradual fall in its profit and now they are staring at a loss as the operating expenses seem to grow over the revenue. Among the cloud of bad things that have been happening to HTC in terms of business, the company sees the success of HTC One as a silver lining. According to HTC, the sales of HTC One are quite encouraging and that it outperformed yesteryear flagships. Pointing the guns at “lack of economy of scale”, it added that the lack of defining mid-range products has hurt the company’s revenue.

However, HTC is hopeful that things will soon pick up. A new set of  innovative and competitive mid-range products are expected to give a grip in the mid-range segment. One of the exciting new mid-range product that HTC is talking about is the HTC One Mini. HTC seems to know that things are going bad and hopefully its measures will bring the company. With Nokia and BlackBerry out of the race, rumors suggest that HTC would be the next to fall.
