Now Amazon is shipping the device even to India and it works out to roughly $53 including shipping charges and import duty. Pretty good deal if you are looking to get yourself a Chromecast. Let me quickly recollect what the Chromecast actually does. It is basically a tiny dongle which brings Youtube , Google Play Movies , Music , Netflix ( not available in India) to your TV. You can also stream your Chrome browser tab to the Chromecast.You need the Chromecast Android App or a PC/Mac with the Chrome web browser to use the Chromecast. It can’t do anything by itself.And yes you need a WiFi network in your home to use it.
The Chromecast does ship with a 110-230V power adapter and works in India without trouble. In case you have a fairly new TV which can power the device by itself , you won’t be needing a power adapter. The $53 price tag on Amazon works out to roughly Rs.3300 which is about Rs.1000 more than the US price , but still a good deal for sure if you are fan of watching Youtube on your large screen Television.
