Toshiba introduces 8MP BSI CMOS camera sensor for smartphones

Toshiba T4K35 image sensor

Toshiba Corporation has unveiled T4K35, a new 1.12µm, 8-megapixel BSI CMOS image sensor with color noise reduction (CNR) aimed to smartphones and tablet . The integrated  CNR circuit and realizes a signal-to-noise ratio are similar to Toshiba sensor created with 1.4µm pixel process. This sensor also incorporates a high dynamic range (HDR) function that reproduces dark and bright areas in high contrast images perfectly.

Features of Toshiba T4K35 image sensor

  • 1/4″ 8M resolution (1.12 μm)
  • BSI: Back Side Illumination
  • Adoption of Color Noise Reduction (CNR) realizes signal-to-noise ratio equal to Toshiba’s equivalent products fabricated with 1.4µm pixel process.
  • Storobe timing pulse
  • Standby mode, Power down mode
  • Global reset for mechanical shutter
  •  High Dynamic Range.
  • High speed frame rate: 30fps at full resolution (8 Megapixels).

The sensor was first announced back in November 2012 along with T4K37, a 13MP sensor. The mass production was expected to start in July 2013, now Toshiba has announced that the company would begin the mass production of the sensor starting November 15th.
