Google powers up Google Search to search through apps

When Google introduced Google Now as their primary search option on Android smartphones, we knew they were headed for something big. Google Now has been trying to take over your Android smartphone as it tries to provide you all the “relevant” information that you may want. The latest power that Google Search has got is the ability to search through applications and show them in the results.

App Indexing

The latest update(which should be rolling out gradually) makes it easy for the users to search for something inside their application directly from Google Search. For example, if you want to look up a movie in Imdb, all you have to do is Google search the movie and among the results, you will see an option showing the Imdb app and an option to open the application from there. This saves a lot of time, especially if you are in a hurry.  In addition to this, Google will also provide Android apps as a search result(but only when it is relevant).

Calypso App Search

According to Google, they are currently working with only a few developers and within some time, we should see these features roll out to other apps. Imagine having the flexibility to search for a restaurant in Google and know more about the restaurant in a related app like Zomato.

This may seem like a small change, but Google have put a lot of thought and made this strong move. As desktop traffic falls and mobile traffic increases, Google must also make their change and Google Now is their biggest friend. Instead of letting the users drift away directly into an Android app, Google has rightly made its move to allow the users to search through the app via Google.
