Spanish handset maker Geeksphone has finally revealed the specifications of their upcoming high-end smartphone called Revolution. It would feature a 4.7-inch (960 x 540 pixels) capacitive touch screen IPS display, powered by a 1.6 GHz dual-core Intel Atom Z2560 processor with PowerVR SGX544 GPU and Hyper-Threading technology. Last month the company posted a video showing the performance of an Intel Atom-powered developer device compared with a Qualcomm Snapdragon-powered device, both running on Firefox OS.
This would not be based on Firefox OS since it is not a Mozilla partner, but it would run on Mozilla Open Web technology Boot2Geck, which would have similar features and have access to Firefox OS marketplace. The smartphone would also have an option to switch to Android OS without losing your warranty, just like Oppo N1, which would come with an option to switch to CyanogenMod ROM from the default Color ROM.
It would feature a 8-megapixel rear camera, expandable storage and a 2000 mAh battery. No word on front-facing camera, RAM or internal memory yet. It is likely to come with 3G support. The Spanish company released Firefox OS developer preview phones, Keon and Peak earlier this year, which saw limited release, so we can’t expect this to roll out globally.
The Geeksphone Peak running Firefox OS is now on sale for 149 Euro (Rs. 12600). The company would release the Revolution smartphone sometime in the first quarter (Q1) of 2014. We still don’t have images of the phone yet.
