Windows Phone users to get 20 GB of free SkyDrive storage for an year thanks to Microsoft

Windows Phone users have something to be extra happy about this Christmas. Microsoft is spreading around some festive cheer in the form of 20GB of free SkyDrive storage. Microsoft says that the free storage is valid for 1 year after which we presume you’ll have to pay for it.

All Windows Phone users can claim their free storage till the end of January via the link that is being mailed to your primary ID attached to the phone. SkyDrive is an integral part of the extended Windows ecosystem and 20GB of free storage is nothing to sneeze at. Microsoft already gives 200GB of free storage for two years to users of the Surface 2 or Surface Pro 2 tablets. Including Windows Phone users into the mix is a good way to drive adoption for their cloud storage service. SkyDrive is also the backend for synchronizing settings across Windows devices and works surprisingly well. SkyDrive clients exist for Android, iOS and of course Windows Phone. The service can also be used on Windows PCs as well as the Mac.
