You must have heard a lot of news surrounding MNP or Mobile Number Portability. The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has finally fixed the various charges for Mobile Number Portability in India and the TRAI press release is below. If you said to any one of the questions above then you might make use of MNP to move to another mobile network operator and retain your same old mobile number. Now lets get to the charges.
You have to pay a porting charge to port your mobile number from one network to another.
This fee has been fixed at Rs.19 only. TRAI has indicated that
The amount to be paid by the subscriber shall not be more than the per port transaction charge i.e. Rs.19. Operators are free to charge any amount less than or equal to this charge
These charges will come into effect on 31st December and MNP is expected to be available in Metros and Category A circles by this date. It is expected to be available in other circles by March.
