Samsung and Cisco come together for a 10 year cross license deal

A few days back, Samsung and Google signed a 10 year deal for licensing patents and last week, Google and Cisco signed a cross license agreement. To complete the love triangle, Samsung and Cisco are now signing a deal for cross licensing.

The latest cross licensing deal between Samsung and Cisco will allow both companies to use each other’s patent portfolio for the next ten years. The deal also reserves license for using any new patent that will be owned by the companies in the next ten years. According to the agreement, Samsung and Cisco will work together in future products and services.

“Innovation is stifled all too often in today’s overly-litigious environment. By cross-licensing our patent portfolios, Cisco and Samsung are taking important steps to reverse the trend and advance innovation and freedom of operation.” said Dan Lang, Cisco’s Vice President of Intellectual Property.

“We look forward to working with Cisco. We expect this agreement to result in mutual growth and, ultimately, for the benefit of both companies’ customers across the world.”  said Dr. Seungho Ahn, the Head of Samsung Electronics Intellectual Property Center.

The deal is effective immediately and both companies are looking forward to working together.
