Samsung partners with Tata Motors to bring Drive Link infotainment system to cars

At the ongoing Auto Expo, Samsung and Tata Motors have announced a tie up to bring closer integration between smartphones and automobiles. The collaboration revolves around bringing Samsung’s Drive Link application to Tata’s fleet of vehicles. A derivative of MirrorLink technology, it will let users duplicate their smartphone interface on an in car display and use it for navigation, media access as well as to answer calls. Tata is expected to introduce Drive Link integration in its passenger car range early next year.

“This is in our line of philosophy to offer new features to our customers to create differentiated products features that are relevant to the present and scalable for the future,” said Ranjit Yadav, Unit President, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles.

Reports suggest that the feature will be available across the range and will not just be restricted to higher end models. Samsung has entered into a similar partnership with Hyundai and BMW as well with Tata Motors being its first partner in India. Tata and Samsung have been working together on this for the past six months. Ford announced a similar partnership last year when it launched the Ecosport with built in Microsoft Sync that offers a subset of the features promised by Mirror Link.
