Rightware launched the Basemark OS II cross-platform benchmarking tool for Android, iPhone, iPad and Windows Phone 8 last month. Today it updated the Basemark X cross-platform benchmarking tool to version 1.1 and has also released it on Windows Phone 8. Basemark X that was released last year was based on Unity 4.0 gaming engine, the version 1.1 Unity gaming engine version 4.2.2. This also adds new features and a new test called Hangar. As usual you get configurable settings and score breakdown in results screen in the full version.
There are two tests, the first test is Dunes, which shows the space and desert and the second test is the Hangar, which uses different clips. It uses Direct3D on Windows Phone 8 devices and OpenGL ES 2.0 on Android and iOS devices making the scores consistent across the devices. Instead of showing just the frame rate, the Basemark X 1.1 shows scores based on total frame time per seconds needed to complete the test workloads.
