Dhingana, popular online music streaming service in India has shut down. Their official website dhingana.com doesn’t say the reason behind the shutdown. This was first reported by Medianama, which said that Dhingana CEO Rohit Bhatia told them back in December that the company was in the process of restructuring its operations, but denied that it is going to shut down. Dhingana has also pulled their mobile apps from the respective app stores.
Dhingana launched music streaming service in India has launched its service on mobile web last year, in addition to iOS BlackBerry, Android, and Nokia apps. In July 2013 it launched Dhingana Gold, premium subscription service for iOS, similar to the Saavn Pro and Gaana+ . Flipkart’s Flyte music service shut down last year and the reason behind it is still not known.
The reason behind these shutdowns might be due to the high licensing fee set by music labels so that these streaming services couldn’t make enough money to keep the service running.
Now there are only quite a few popular streaming services such as Saavn, Gaana and Hungama in India. Spotify for iOS and Android went free globally few months back with a new shuffle play feature. Still there is not sign of Spotify Premium in India.
