Allwinner Technology has announced its UltraOcta A80 processor with PowerVR G6230 64-core GPU. It has four ARM Cortex-A7 and four Cortex-A15 CPU cores based on ARM big.LITTLE architecture and also has Heterogeneous Multi-Processing (HMP) that would let each CPU to be switched on or off as needed and also enables the use of all physical cores at the same time.
It is the world’s first ARM big.LITTLE octa-core heterogeneous SoC design to include a PowerVR Series6 GPU, claims Allwinner. It is aimed at tablets, OTT media players, notebook PCs, all-in-ones, smart TVs and more.
The PowerVR G6230 GPU from Imagination has OpenGL 3.0 support, dual-cluster designthat has a total of 64 FP32 ALU cores, each cluster contains 16 pipelines and each pipeline has 2 FP32 ALUs. This offers superior processing power and improved precision for better image quality.
The UltraOcta A80 processor would ship to OEMs in Q1 2014 and the devices featuring this chip are expected in the next few months.
