The GSM Association has announced the winners for the 19th annual Global Mobile Awards at the GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Last year the Galaxy S3 bagged the award, this year HTC One was awarded the best smartphone of the year, even though it had tough contenders such as Samsung Galaxy Note 3, iPhone 5S, Nokia Lumia 1020 and the LG G2. Nokia bagged two awards, the Lumia 520 bagged the award for the best low-cost smartphone of the year, competing with phones like Sony Xperia E and Samsung Galaxy Young. Nokia 105 won for the best entry-level or feature phone of the year.
After collecting the award, Peter Chou, chief executive officer for HTC said,
We’re incredibly proud that the HTC One continues to be recognised as a game-changing smartphone, with its sleek design, superior audio and impressive functionality. Winning yet another international award for the HTC One proves that the device has taken the mobile experience to a new level and continues to set HTC apart from the competition. We’re looking forward to building on this success with more incredible innovation planned for the coming months.
After collecting the award, Jussi Nevanlinna, vice president for Mobile Phones product marketing, Nokia said,
Nokia is a global leader in affordable mobile phones, and an all-Nokia category in the Global Mobile Awards is quite a feat. The team responsible for designing, building and bringing the Nokia 105 to market have a great reason to celebrate today’s win. I’m personally proud of all the nominated product teams whose hard work is helping Nokia connect the next billion.
LG won the award for most innovative company. After collecting the award, Chris Yie, vice president of LG Mobile Marketing Communications, said,
We are incredibly humbled that GSMA selected LG from among the many capable companies in the mobile industry to honor with this award. Innovation has been the key to LG’s success. This recognition, in addition to last year’s Best Smartphone of MWC 2013 award, is clear proof that our hard work and effort is paying off.
