HP Slate 7 Extreme Hands on

FoneArena is live from MWC 2014 at Barcelona and we have a lot of manufacturers showcasing their products. We are at HP’s booth where they have on display – HP Slate 7 Extreme. HP had announced the HP Slate 7 Extreme sometime in September. HP Slate 7 Extreme is just a rebranded version of the NVIDIA Tegra Note and comes with HP’s own Direct Stylus. The HP Slate 7 Extreme looks like a variant of the NVidia Tegra Note, but with HP branding.

We managed to get sometime with the device and managed to do a quick hands on video.

The specifications of the HP Slate 7 Extreme are

  • 7-inch (1280 x 800 pixels) multitouch IPS display
  • 1.8 GHz quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 4 processor
  • Android 4.2 (Jelly Bean) OS
  • 5MP auto focus rear camera
  • 0.3MP (VGA) front-facing camera
  • 3.5mm audio jack, Front-facing stereo speakers
  • WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth, micro HDMI
  • 1GB RAM, 16GB internal memory, expandable up to 32GB via micro SD
  • 4100 mAh battery with up to 10 hours of HD video playback
  • HP Direct Stylus

In terms of design, the HP Slate 7 Extreme comes with front facing stereo speakers which are quite good. The bezels on the sides and top are fairly thick and there are no capacitive keys – all navigation is restricted to on-screen buttons. On the right side, there is a microSIM card slot and volume rocker. There is nothing on the left side while the top is crowded with a microUSB port, microHDMI port, 3.5mm audio jack and the power lock button. The bottom houses the direct stylus. The back of the tablet is different from the Tegra Note as it comes with HP’s Aluminum finish and feels more premium.
