It’s the year of phones powered by octa-core processors. From Samsung to Intex, everyone has one, in the market. Strangely, Micromax a key player, did not up until it launched Canvas Knight, in March. Competitively priced at Rupees 19999, the Micromax Canvas Knight promises lighting speeds. How good is it compared to other octa-core phones out there? We begin with the first impression – looks and hardware specs.
Powered by a MediaTek 2GHz Tru Octa-Core MT6592T processor, Micromax Canvas Knight flaunts a 5 inch full HD (1920 x 1080) display. Pixel composition is 443 pixels-per-inch. Screen is quite bright even at minimum brightness level.
Unibody aluminium design gives a sturdy feel to device. However, a glossy hardware like this is a finger print magnet. 2350 mAh Battery is sealed behind back.
Looks better now? This is a plastic cover that comes in box with Micromax Canvas Knight. A much-needed accessory for those who do not like shiny, glossy phone hardware. A 16-megapixel camera sits on top accompanied by single LED flash. Knight uses M8 Largan lens that helps produce crisp and clear images with its optically aligned lens. Rear camera can capture 1080p /high def videos. 32 GB inbuilt memory allows 25 GB space for mass storage, 1.5 GB for application. A 2 GB RAM accompanies and octa-core chip promise a fast multi-tasking experience on Canvas Knight.
Since Micromax Canvas Knight is a dual sim phone, it has one sim slot on each side spine. One can be spotted just above power button and volume control buttons.
On its feet are speakers/amplifiers by Yamaha. A charger slot is placed besides it.
A metallic strip surrounds the corners. It compliments crisp aesthetics of Knight phone. Top side is a 3.5mm audio jack.
Opposite side spine sports a second sim slot.
Micromax runs the older Jelly Bean version of Android Operating System, version 4.2. It supports dual SIMs, slots for which are placed opposite each other on both spines.
With a 5 inch display and a shiny aluminium body carrying a relatively heavy battery, Micromax Canvas Knight cannot be listed among light-weight phones, in market. It fits easily in a medium-sized hand because of average-slim built, however it does weigh a bit heavy.
A rather important feature for most newly launched phones – is front facing camera. 8-megapixel camera above screen will click better resolution selfies. Perhaps, phone makers should consider adding panorama view, fish eye option in all front cameras, for better ‘group’ selfies! We will be bringing you the unboxing, benchmarks, gaming performance videos and the complete review of the smartphone by next week.
