Japan Display to ship 5.5-inch WQHD display with 538 ppi pixel density in April

Japan Display Inc. announced 5.4-inch WQHD (1,440 x 2,560 pixels) display at 543 ppi for smartphones back in October last year. Today JDI has unveiled 5.46-inch WQHD (1,440 x 2,560 pixels) display at 538 ppi for smartphones. Oppo unveiled the Find 7 earlier this month that uses the same Quad HD LCD panel from JDI. It also launched Find 7a with a 1080p panel, which would go on sale first. The Find 7 with Quad HD screen is expected sometime around May or June.

Oppo Find 7 has Super Zoom mode that lets users capture images at 50-megapixel (8,160 x 6,120 pixels). The high-resolution display is expected to offer more details when viewing these images. LG was the first company to introduce 5.5-inch Quad HD panel for smartphone back in August last year, but we are yet to see a smartphone from LG with this panel.

This users JDI’s enhanced low-temperature poly-silicon (LTPS) technology that would improve the pixel aperture ratio to achieve high transmittance and low power consumption. Specifications of the new 5.46-inch panel is slightly different from the 5.4-inch WQHD panel that was unveiled last year. Check out the specifications.
