Sony has launched its Background Defocus app in Google Play Store which can be downloaded for free by all Xperia smartphone users. Compatible on devices running on Android 4.2 and higher, the app enables users to take photo and add a background blur.
Background defocus allows you to create a bokeh effect in your pictures, adding depth of field. The background defocus feature is exclusively available to the Xperia Z1s and the Xperia Z2 users. In order to use the app, you have to frame your shot and tap on an object onscreen to focus.
The app then takes two photos and allows you to control the background blur before finalizing the photo. Sony recommends that the users focus an object that is 15 to 45 cm away from the phone and the background is 5 meters from the concerned object.
Last week, Google released stock camera app in the Play Store for all the Android devices running on 4.4 featuring a similar technology called Lens Blur. Around same time Sony also released Xperia keyboard on Google Play.
