Google has scooped up number of communication technology patents from Foxconn for an undisclosed amount, reports The Wall Street Journal. The Taiwanese based electronic manufacturer said that it has sold unspecified number of patents to Google.
The patents were originally owned by the Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. more informally known as Foxconn, are best known for assembling Apple’s iPhone and Sony’s PlayStation game consoles. Foxconn stated that it currently has over 128,000 patent applications and has been granted more than 64,000 patents.
The company said it would continue to invest in technology research and development, “transforming such investments into valuable intellectual property assets”. Google had acquired some patents from Foxconn last year whose details were also unavailable. The search engine giant had also entered into a partnership with Samsung for patent cross-licensing deals while a similar deal was struck between Cisco and Samsung.
