BlackBerry has introduced new Timed Messages feature in BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) that lets you set a timer to control how long messages and pictures you share with contacts can be viewed. There have been several ephemeral messaging apps after Snapchat. Recently LINE messenger got a similar feature called Hidden Chat. Microsoft even released an app for ephemeral messaging called WindUp for Windows Phone.
BBM also gets a new message retraction feature that lets you cancel the message in case if you had sent it to the wrong person. You can touch and hold on the message and choose retract message from the menu to cancel it. This doesn’t work with pictures and is not available for group chats. Timed messages can be sent by tapping the timer icon next to the text bar. You can then set the time the content should be displayed. When a screenshot is detected, the sender is notified, but you can’t prevent them from capturing one.

These new features are available as limited beta for BBM for Android and BlackBerry 10. These features would be available in BBM 2.5 for iPhone, Android and BlackBerry 10 soon.
