EE ending Orange Wednesdays film offer from February 2015

EE is set to axe its iconic “Orange Wednesdays” 2-for-1 cinema ticket offer from 25th February next year. The offer was originally started by Orange ten years ago and enabled EE mobile and broadband customers to a free full priced cinema ticket every Wednesday (when purchasing another).

Following the merger of T-Mobile and Orange in 2010, the Orange Wednesdays offer was extended to EE customers (but not those on T-Mobile) but with an EE spokesperson confirming that “viewing habits have evolved“, EE will be looking at other entertainment solutions instead.

The closure of the Orange Wednesdays offer (also referred to as EE Film) means that the current offer of 2for1 on mains and dough balls at Pizza Express restaurants is also set to be axed. EE has yet to announce what will replace the 2for1 offer but industry insiders suggest that the current 2for1 deal may be taken over by comparison site Compare the Market (the one with those annoying the Meerkat adverts).

An EE spokesperson told MoneySavingExpert:

“Orange Wednesdays launched over a decade ago and at its peak was a massive success and an iconic promotion. After 10 great years our brand has changed and our customers’ viewing habits have also evolved so it’s time to move on.

“That’s why the final credits will roll for Orange Wednesdays at the end of February 2015. We’re working on new customer entertainment rewards and we’ll provide more detail soon.”
