Facebook is dropping Bing as its primary search engine, as per latest report from Reuters. The social network will instead use its own tool for searching results.
The report said that Microsoft’s search engine will no longer power the Graph search results on Facebook. Users will be able to search for information related to friends’ posts and comments. Microsoft and Facebook officials have both confirmed the switch has happened and that Facebook is no longer showing Bing Web search results in Facebook search. Microsoft execs have said the two companies will continue to partner in other areas.
“We’re not currently showing web search results in Facebook Search because we’re focused on helping people find what’s been shared with them on Facebook.”
Microsoft spokesperson said in a statement to Reuters.
The move comes as Facebook strengthens its other search tools. Last week, the social network added the ability for users to search for comments.
