Xiaomi sold 61.1 million smartphones in 2014, revenues up 135%

Xiaomi today announced that it sold 61.12 million smartphones in 2014 and has exceeded its 60 million target. This is a 227% increase compared to its sales the previous year. It sold 26.1 million smartphones in first half of 2014.

It has posted revenue of RMB 74.3 billion yuan (US$12 billion approx.) including taxes, an increase of 135% compared to 2013. It raised US$1.1 billion in the latest funding and the company is now valued at US$45 billion, making it the world’s most valuable private tech startup. Lei Jun already announced that Xiaomi aims to sell 100 million devices in 2015.

Today the company announced its Redmi 2 smartphone in China, which will go on sale later this month. It already promised to unveil its next flagship smartphone at an event later this month. Today it said that the event will happen on 15th January.

Xiaomi has invested in more than 20 hardware companies, including home appliances giant Midea group. We want to cooperate closely with every more partners to create a more holistic ecosystem, and bring a more complete, interesting and convenient smart technology user experience for all Xiaomi fans, said the company.

It entered into 7 countries last year as it planned, but it slowed down its expansion few months back. It sold 1 million smartphone in India within the first five months of its entry. It is expected to expand to Vietnam, Russia, Turkey, Brazil and Mexico in 2015.
