Twitter is testing a new feature that makes its service more accessible to new users, as per a report from The New York Times. Dubbed as Instant Timeline, the feature will curate a feed for people based on their interests, and who their friends follow.
The feature scans user’s contacts and then, by determining who their friends follow, generates a tailored instant timeline full of various subjects ranging from sports to celebrity tweets to news. That data mostly comes from the accounts your contacts are following, so if you’re friends with a lot of sports or tech fans you might get a sports-heavy timeline. When the new user loads up Twitter, their timeline will be filled with tweets from these accounts. The new feature also helps new users navigate Twitter’s interface, providing tutorials at certain points throughout the service to explain tricky features, like direct messaging.
Currently, the instant timeline feature is being tested with a small number of people who sign up for Twitter on Android devices. Twitter had announced its roadmap for 2015 which included revamped DM and instant timeline feature. Since the beginning of this year, Twitter has rolled out “while you were away” feature and “group direct messaging along with native video sharing feature.
