Google has joined Via Licensing Corp.’s LTE Patent Pool that is a partnership of more than a dozen companies with a collection of patents for 4G devices including smartphones, tablets, video game systems and automobiles.
Via Licensing Patent Pool, aggregates LTE wireless patents from multiple patent holders for the purpose of offering fair, predictable and cost-effective royalties for LTE patents. Google’s patents to Via Licencing Patent Pool includes the impressive portfolio of LTE standard essential patents originally owned by Motorola Mobility and Motorola.

Google is the newest entry to its intellectual property to the pool, which already has patents from AT&T, China Mobile, Deutsche Telekom, KDDI, NTT DoCoMo, SK Telecom, Telecom Italia, Telefonica, ZTE, and others. Google gained ownership of some 17,000 patents when it acquired Motorola in 2012. Via Licensing says any patent holder is welcome to contribute patents to its growing collection.
