Deadline to implement the full mobile number portability (MNP) across the India has now been extended by another two months. Cellular Operators Association on India (COAI) have asked for extension seeking some technical issues in implementation.

The last day to implement ‘full MNP’ ended on this Sunday (May 3), but the Department of Telecom (DoT) has extended the deadline further, reports PTI. Previously, DoT had approved the recommendations of TRAI on November 3 last year, which were to get implemented within a period of 6 months.

“The government has decided to extend the date of implementation of the full MNP in the networks by two months,” an official statement said.

The issue behind the delay is that the telecom operators need to make some technical changes to their networks due to changes in national numbering plan (NNP) and this could take about 8 weeks, notes the report.

At present, you can only avail MNP for changing mobile network within the same telecom circle, but once the ‘full MNP’ rolls out, you will be able to do it for other circles across India.
