Chinese smartphone maker, Xiaomi has appointed Wang Xiang, former head of Qualcomm’s Chinese operations as the senior vice president of strategic cooperation.
“Wang was the one who successfully helped Qualcomm establish a strategic cooperation with Xiaomi, which has only deepened over time. I believe that with Wang Xiang’s excellent leadership skills, over 20 years of experience in the industry, and close ties with players within the mobile ecosystem, he will be able to steer Xiaomi to the next level of success in strategic cooperation and establishing important partner relations.”
said Xiaomi founder and CEO Lei Jun in a statement.
Wang has over 20 years of experience in the communications industry and is a true expert in the mobile ecosystem who will help Xiaomi to build up its strategic relationships. He had been instrumental in getting Qualcomm up and running in China. Prior to Qualcomm, Wang held positions at Motorola and Lucent/Agere. Qualcomm has been a chip provider for Xiaomi phones as well as an investor in the Chinese company. Xiaomi’s flagship phone, the Mi, has used Qualcomm’s Snapdragon line of application processors since the Mi 1. The latest Mi Note Pro uses Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 810 processor.
Last year, Xiaomi appointed Spotify’s Donovan Sung to lead international product development and former-Google employee Jai Mani as lead product manager in India.
