After a teaser earlier this week, the French photo software company named DxO Labs has introduced a pocket-sized 20.2-megapixel lens-style camera dubbed the DxO ONE for your iPhone to take images that can match the quality of a DSLR.
The DxO ONE camera can be plugged in to the Lightning port of your iPhone or iPad, and can swivel up to 60 degrees in each direction. It is compatible with iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 5s, iPhone 5c, iPhone 5, iPad Air 2, iPad mini 3, iPad Air, iPad mini 2, iPad (4th gen), and iOS 8 or later.
It doesn’t include a LCD screen for composing and reviewing shots, so you need paired iPhone/ iPad to click pictures, which also requires the free companion app provided by the company. The camera has its own memory card and battery, so this doesn’t drain your phone’s battery or storage.
The DxO ONE packs a 1-inch CMOS BSI sensor (6-element aspherical lens has a maximum aperture of f/1.8) and can record full-HD (1080p) video with 30fps, also 720p/120fps. The tiny little pocket-sized DxO ONE camera fits easily in your palm and measures 67.5×48.85×26.25mm. It is also pretty lightweight with just 108 grams.
The camera supports .JPG, .DNG, .DxO (SuperRAW), .MOV (H.264) formats. You can also pass your RAW files through the DxO Connect software on your computer.
The DxO ONE camera will begin shipping in September, and pre-orders have started for $599. When you buy DxO ONE, you also get DxO FilmPack and (for a limited time) the Elite Edition of DxO OpticsPro.
