Google Maps for Android lets you search for gas prices and add detours to your route

Google has updated Maps for Android with a couple of new features. The latest update lets you search for gas prices and add detours to your route, without having to exit out of navigation.

The update that will start rolling out from next few weeks will allow you to view gas stops along your route. In addition, the update also offers information on various nearby point of interests like grocery stores, coffee shops and restaurants. You can check them inside the navigation itself by simply tapping on the magnifying glass at the top right corner of the screen. This brings up the drop down menu that will offer several options, including gas stations, restaurants, grocery stores, and coffee shops. You can even find these points of interest by using voice commands by tapping on the microphone button.

The new features to Google Maps looks handy and will be quite useful. Google Maps was updated in September with enhanced navigation UI and new popular times chart. There is no word whether the latest feature is coming to Maps for iOS.
