Microsoft introduced the Surface Pro 4, its Surface 2 in 1 last month. At the Future Unleashed 2015 event in Mumbai yesterday, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced that the Surface Pro 4 will launch in India early January 2016. We got our hands on the latest Surface Pro device, here is the hardware walk through in the form of photo gallery.
The Surface Pro 4 packs a 12.3-inch (2160×1440 pixels) 3:2 display with 267PPI and has new display technology that Microsoft is calling PixelGlass that has 1024 different pressure sensitivity levels. It runs Windows 10 Pro and comes with 30-day Office trial.
On the top there is a 5-megapixel camera along with LED indicator and an ambient light sensor. The Surface Pro 4 is powered by 6th Gen Intel Core m3 (Intel HD graphics 515), i5 (Intel HD graphics 520) or i7 (Intel Iris graphics) processor, supports up to 16GB of RAM and upto 512GB SSD storage (in India).
It also has new Type Cover, which is lighter and thinner than the Surface 3’s Type Cover, features a larger trackpad and more space between keys, thus making it easier to type. There is also a version of the Type Cover with Fingerprint ID.
The new Surface Pen that works with Surface Book, Surface Pro 4, and Surface Pro 3 can be attached to the side of the Surface Pro 4 easily so that you won’t lose it.
It has Wi-Fi 802.11ac and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity features, measures 292.10mm x 201.42mm x 8.45mm and weighs 766 grams for the base version and 786 grams for the high-end version.
On the side microSD card reader, Full-size USB 3.0 port and a Mini Display port.
On the top there are volume rockers and the power button.
It has Magnesium body offering a solid feel, has an 8.0-megapixel autofocus camera on the back with 1080p HD video recording and comes with dual stereo microphones. It also has stereo speakers with Dolby Audio. It has a 5087mAh built-in battery that promises up to 9 hours of continuous video playback.
It also has a built-in kickstand, similar to earlier Surface Pro series devices.
The Surface Pro 4 Type Cover has full row of function keys, dedicated buttons for Windows shortcuts, media controls, and screen brightness, trackpad with right click button and accelerometer.
It measures 295mm x 217mm x 4.9mm, weighs 310 grams and comes in Black, blue, bright blue, red, and teal colors
The Surface Pen connects to Surface via Bluetooth 4.0 LE and comes with different pen tips. Other than the medium tip with the familiarity of a number 2 pencil, it also lets you choose a low friction tip that offers a writing experience of a fine point pen.
The Microsoft Surface Pro 4 starts in the U.S. at $899. We should know the pricing of all the variants when it goes on sale in India early January 2016.
