Truecaller is the popular phone directory app that allows users to identify unknown numbers, block unwanted calls, and search contact information among people and businesses. The company announced in October last year that it has crossed 100 million users in India. Truecaller has been focusing on tier II and III markets in India. In December Intex teamed up with Truecaller to integrate its service along with the Truedialer app on its Aqua Young smartphone.
The phone comes pre-installed with the Truecaller app and lets Intex Aqua Young users identify unidentified numbers on incoming and outgoing calls as well as block unwanted spam calls. As soon as you register your mobile number, you get a missed call from Truecaller for confirmation.
You get a massive online phone book with the app installed in your phone. If you don’t have a particular number saved in your phone book, Truecaller uses its database and shares information when you get a call from such unknown numbers. As the app acts like a phone book, you can simply search for a person’s number by typing the name in the search bar. If that person has kept his/her number open to the public, you can view that number. If not then you will have to request that particular person to share his/her contact information with you.
Truecaller claims to have a database of 1.7 billion numbers in the country and blocks over 120 million spam calls daily. It also detects spam numbers and gives you a spam warning. You can also choose to block certain number through the app, which you can choose to unblock later on. The app correctly recognized a couple of numbers that I knew. However, when I called from a recently acquired new number the app showed me the name of the original owner and not of the latest one.
The Intex Aqua Young supports 21 regional Indian languages and in addition, last year, Truecaller introduced new transliteration feature that activates real-time Hindi transliteration of the caller ID function. In order to activate this new feature, you need to go to settings and enable the Hindi language option. Once enabled, your Next call will be available in Hindi.
The app has a floating action button (FAB) that lets you easily block numbers by entering them manually, from call history, from SMS, phonebook and from a number series as well. This makes the blocking process easy and quick.
Finally, the along with the Truecaller integration, the Intex Aqua Young phone also gets a Truedialer instead of a native dialer. The new dialer that offers relevant information about contacts such as name, profile photo and more before placing a caller, since this has Truecaller technology built into the app. This requires data connection, similar to the Truecaller app.
The app can also automatically fill in missing contact information in the call log with information from Truecaller’s database. In case of protection from spammers, the app will warn you before placing the call, if a number you are about to dial has been reported by Truecaller’s community as an unwanted number. The Truedialer app also comes with T9 search support for predictive text input. The Truecaller app and Truedialer integration on the Intex Aqua Young makes the calling experience easy and safe.
