Apple is all geared up to announce the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus at an event today but this hasn’t stopped the rumors about the upcoming phones. A new report is claiming that Apple will introduce high-end wireless earbuds along with the iPhones.

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI Securities told Apple Insider in a note that the company  is planning to release a set of wireless earbuds that are expected to be called AirPods. The company will debut AirPods as it is doing away with the 3.5mm headphone jack for the latest iPhones.

Ming-Chi Kuo wrote in a research note,

Apple will likely have its own-designed Bluetooth-like communication chip and launch own-brand Bluetooth headphones targeting the high-end market, with Beats positioned in the midrange market.

Earlier reports had suggested that Apple might release its own wireless earbuds and Apple has filed a trademark on the name. Kuo further says it is unlikely that Apple will bundle the wireless AirPods with the new iPhones. The analyst also goes on saying that the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company has developed the wireless chip for the earbuds. Even though Apple will not offer the AirPods with the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, it will bundle free set of Lightning EarPods, along with an adapter.

The Apple event is scheduled for Wednesday, September 7 at 10:00 am PT (10:30 PM IST).
