In a recent announcement, the Cupertino giant Apple revealed that the company has generated revenue of more than $20 billion for developers in 2016. Since 2008, developers have earned over $60 billion, creating apps across iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Apple TV and Mac.
The company said the App store generated record sales on New year ( 1 Jan 2017) with nearly $240 million in purchases. As per the company claims, Super Mario Run alone generated 40 million downloads in its first four days and the subscription billings for app including Netflix and Tinder increased 74% last year to $2.7 billion from 2015. Apart from this, Prisma, Reigns, Procreate, Lumino City, Sweat With Kayla and djay Pro, from some of Apple’s independent developers, were among the most successful apps.
Further, the App Store offers 2.2 million apps in total, which is up over 20 percent from last year. Moreover, the main contribution for the App Store comes from US, China, Japan and the UK.
Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. said:
2016 was a record-shattering year for the App Store, generating $20 billion for developers, and 2017 is off to a great start with Jan. 1 as the single biggest day ever on the App Store. We want to thank our entire developer community for the many innovative apps they have created — which together with our products — help to truly enrich people’s lives.
