Google previewed Android Instant Apps at Google I/O last year and now they are live for Android users in limited test format. Currently Instant Apps are available from BuzzFeed, Periscope and Viki.

Google says that it has been working with a small number of developers to test the user and developer experience over the last few months. The aforementioned apps are result of these tests. For those unaware, Android Instant Apps are not required to be download, instead they can be opened by simply tapping on a link even if the app is not installed.

Aurash Mahbod, Software Engineer, Google Play wrote in a blog post,

To develop an instant app, you’ll need to update your existing Android app to take advantage of Instant Apps functionality and then modularize your app so part of it can be downloaded

Google plans to have the full Android Instant Apps SDK available “in the coming months.” Previously, the company said Android Instant Apps will become available by the end of 2016.
