After some reports, Google has finally confirmed that it will reveal the Android O name and will show off some new features at an event in New York City on August 21st at 2:40 PM ET (12:10 AM IST August 22nd). It coincides with with the total solar eclipse that will cover entire United States for the first time since 1918. It is also offering live stream at android.com/o.

It posted a video on social channels. On Google+ it posted the same video / GIF with the name Google Oreo, but it later changed it to Octopus. Now it is named Orbit, so it is not clear if it will be called Oreo.
Google announced Android O during the Google I/O 2017. The new operating system brings new features like Notification Dots, Picture-in-Picture, Autofill and Smart text selection.
It is currently compatible with Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus Player, Pixel C tablet, Google Pixel and Pixel XL devices. Google recently released the final Android 8.0 O Developer Preview 4. We should also know the roll out details for the final stable build in a couple of days.
