Display, design, and hardware
The t.phone P sports a 5.2-inch (1280 x 720 pixels) HD 2.5D curved glass display with a pixel density of 282ppi. The display is not bright enough for outdoor viewing and the sunlight legibility is just. However, the color reproduction, viewing angles are good and the text looks sharp too. There is a yellow tint spread all over the display and it can be seen clearly from side angles with white background. After being used to Night Mode in other smartphones, lack of it is a slight let down.
The t.phone P comes with a metal unibody design with soft matte finish texture on the back. Having said that, it has a plastic finish on the top and the bottom parts where the antennas are present. It also has glossy side metal frame giving us a comfortable side grips. The device measures 148.3×72.2×8.9mm and is a bit heavy at 160 grams since it has a huge battery. It doesn’t go easy on your wrist, but it feels compact though. Otherwise, the build quality is solid, looks premium and feels compact in hand as well.
Moving on to the placements, the t.phone P has a 5-megapixel camera on the front with LED flash, earpiece and a notification LED light. It also has the usual set of proximity and ambient light sensors, and also comes with Gyroscope, but lacks magnetometer or magnetic sensor. Below the screen, we have three capacitive buttons that correspond to Recent apps, home, and back. These are backlit and offer haptic feedback when pressed.
The right side of the device has the volume rocker and power button, while the left side has Hybrid Dual SIM (nano + nano/microSD) slot.
Top of the display houses 3.5mm audio jack and a secondary Microphone, whereas the bottom of the device primary microphone, MicroUSB port, and a speaker grille.
There is a 13-megapixel camera on the back with LED flash, f/2.2 aperture, and PDAF. There is a fingerprint sensor on the back, which is quick to unlock the phone most of the times. There is a smartron branding below it, and there is also t.phone branding on the bottom part of the back.
Software and storage
The t.phone p is shipped with Android 7.1.1 (Nougat) out of the box with Android security patch for December 1, 2017. The company doesn’t say when the phone will get Android 8.0 (Oreo) update. One of the best things about this device is it runs on almost stock Android except for some apps from Amazon such as Amazon Shopping app, Google utility apps and 4 native apps inside. It also comes with tcloud with 1000GB of storage, as well as tronX’s assistive and predictive AI.
From the lock screen, you can access Google assistant and camera app. The t.phone comes with stock dialer UI and Google keyboard. During calls, the earpiece volume is good and there is no call drop as well.
Google Plus music is the default music player, and also has FM radio as well. Loudspeaker output is decent enough for a silent room, otherwise, it’s average. Audio through the headset is good.
Talking about the storage, the t.phone p comes with 3GB RAM and 32GB onboard storage with an expandable option of up to 128GB via MicroSD card. Out of 3GB, we got around 1.3GB in general during our usage and out of 32GB, we got around 21GB free.
Camera
The t.phone P comes with a 13MP rear camera and 5MP selfie shooter with LED Flash and f/2.2 aperture for both. The UI of the camera is relatively simple and can be easily interacted with. The camera comes with various modes including beautify, time lapse, panorama, and multi-exposure as well. If you are tired of an auto-mode, you can opt for manual mode, where you get to control ISO, White-balance, Focus and much more.
Talking about the real world usage, the picture quality during daylight condition is good for a smartphone at this price range again. Images shot on the rear camera comes out naturally with right amount details and clarity. The processing is right on point as well. Anyhow, the images under low light tend to be grainy. Also, the flashlight tends to complement the picture by not overpowering the subject. But we cannot expect a smartphone from this price segment to be exceptional. The selfie camera is just average and the flash is not that bright, so there is a lot of noise. It can record videos at maximum 1080p resolution at 30 fps, but the video quality is just average.

Performance
The t.phone p is powered by Octa-core Snapdragon 435 Mobile Platform clocked at 1.4GHz with Adreno 505 GPU under the hood. This chipset from Qualcomm is specifically made for casual usage ranging from browsing the internet, listening to songs, chatting and watching videos. It is one of that chipset that is not meant for intensive gaming or multi-tasking between heavy apps.
The strength of this smartphone lies in casual performance, as we found no problems while interacting with the apps. We experienced a bit of hang during multi-tasking especially while juggling between apps like GMaps, Whatsapp and Wynk. In case, if you are an intense gamer, then this device is not for you.
Check out some synthetic benchmark scores below.

As promised by the company, we easily got around 1.5 days on a single charge with heavy usage that includes Netflix streaming, gaming, songs and more. During casual usage, we around two solid days on a single charge, which is indeed appreciated.
In our One Charge rating the Smatron t.phone p achieved 22 hours 41 minutes, mainly due to brilliant talk time, but this is good. On the other side, the let down of the device is the charging time as it takes about 3 hours to charge the phone from 0 to 100% and about 1 hour and 25 minutes to charge from 0 to 50% since it doesn’t have support for fast charging.
