Google rolled out the Android P Beta 2 (DP3) update to Pixel series smartphones with final APIs, SDK, and Play Store publishing today. Now Essential Phone is getting the Android P Beta 1 update (DP2) with bug fixes & June security patch.

The update includes Android P-code integration, improved adaptive brightness range, various stability fixes and June Security Patches. Google at the I/O 2018 event has opened up the beta update beyond Pixel phones and a handful of phones have got the developers beta update of Android P to test. The update to Essential Phone also brings improved adaptive brightness range and increased stability.
Interestingly, the update moves Android P from Developer Preview to a Beta, while it doesn’t mean it is ready as a daily driver, it does offer improved performance with better stability. The company has mentioned a list of known issues that includes Outgoing SMS over IP not working, Wi-Fi Hotspot does not stay on, Cannot receive VT (Video Telephony) calls and Volume drops during audio playback after tapping on launcher screen with dongle attached. If you are already on Android P preview, you will get the update via OTA, but if you are on Android O, it should be side-loaded first.
