Xiaomi to replace Redmi Note 7 with Redmi Note 7S in India

Xiaomi launched the Redmi Note 7S smartphone with 48MP rear camera yesterday in India as the company’s latest addition in the popular Note series lineup. Redmi Note 7S is a rebranded version of Chinese Redmi Note 7 model. Now the company has confirmed that the Note 7S will be replacing Redmi Note 7 in India.

Redmi Note 7 and Redmi Note 7S have almost identical design and specifications excluding the rear camera setup. Redmi Note 7S packs a 48-megapixel rear camera with 1/2″ Samsung ISOCELL Bright GM1 sensor with f/1.8 aperture along with a 5-megapixel secondary camera. On the other hand, Redmi Note 7 packs a 12-megapixel rear camera with Sony IMX486 sensor with f/2.2 aperture along with a 2-megapixel secondary camera.

In a tweet, Raghu Reddy, Head of Categories & Online Sales-Xiaomi India confirmed that the Redmi Note 7 will be phased out. But, no exact date was revealed on when Xiaomi will stop selling the smartphone. The Redmi Note 7 went on open sale in the country last month, and now only few variants are in stock both on Flipkart and mi.com. Now it is clear that the company will not bring new stocks both online and offline since the Redmi Note 7S will go on sale later this week.

Another executive of Xiaomi India said that there might be an overlap between the availability of Redmi Note 7S and Redmi Note 7 models.

Anuj Sharma, Xiaomi India Marketing Head said that the company planned a limited run for Redmi Note 7 and the planned volumes of Redmi Note 7 sold out quicker than they expected.

To recall, Redmi Note 7S is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 660 Mobile Platform, sports a 6.3-inch Full HD+ DotNotch display with 1.95mm narrow bezels, 81.37% screen-to-body ratio, Aura design with a glass back with 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection, P2i nano-coating, rear-mounted fingerprint sensor and a 4000mAh battery with support for Qualcomm Quick Charge 4.0 for 18W fast charging.
