HMD Connect Global Data Roaming Service and SIM card launched

HMD Global, the makers of Nokia-branded smartphones, in partnership with Greenwave Systems and local operators, is dipping their toes into a new service category with the launch of the HMD Connect global data roaming service. It is a SIM based global data service that will provide a roaming data connection in over 120 countries at launch with a starting price of 9.95€ (Approx. Rs. 801).

The service is currently in Beta on HMDConnect.com and is designed to give a hassle-free, secure and affordable roaming service across the world. Users who sign up will receive a SIM card delivered to their home and will be required to pay a base price of 9.95€ (Approx. Rs. 801) for activation. Once activated, the plan will be valid for 14 days. Within that time period, if the user finishes their data cap, they can pay an extra 5€ for an upgrade, similar to a pay-as-you-go service.

The amount of data that the user will receive will depend on the region of activation. HMDConnect is split into three zones, where users in zone 1, 2 and 3 will get 1GB, 500MB, 250MB of data respectively. Among the 120 countries, India belongs Zone 2 and to check the complete list, click here. To sign up for the beta click here and to download the companion HMDConnect app from the Play Store, click here, but India is not in the list of countries they ship the SIM.
