Samsung introduces standalone turnkey security solution with SE chip S3FV9RR built-in

Samsung has announced a new turnkey security solution for mobile devices that utilises their Secure Element (SE) chip (S3FV9RR) and enhanced security software. It is certified with the Common Criteria Evaluation Assurance Level (CC EAL) 6+ certified, which is the highest rating ever achieved with a mobile-based component.

CC EAL 6+ is a certification used for devices with high security requirements like flagship smartphones, e-passports and hardware wallets for cryptocurrency. The turnkey solution S3FV9RR offers protection for tasks such as booting, isolated storage, mobile payment and other applications.

It has twice the secure storage capacity when compared to its predecessor, enabling hardware-based root of trust (RoT) for mobile security. The security chip can also behave in standalone solution that makes it ideal and versatile for mobile devices and IoT applications. The S3FV9RR is expected to begin shipping out by Q3 2020.

Commenting on its launch, Dongho Shin, senior vice president of System LSI marketing at Samsung Electronics said:

In this era of mobility and contact-less interactions, we expect our connected devices, such as smartphones or tablets, to be highly secure so as to protect personal data and enable fintech activities such as mobile banking, stock trading and cryptocurrency transactions. With the new standalone security element solution (S3FV9RR), Samsung is mounting a powerful deadbolt on smart devices to safeguard private information.
