OnePlus 8 Pro Unboxing and First Impressions

The most expensive device from OnePlus’ stable – OnePlus 8 Pro is here! With this device, the company is joining the big leagues with the likes of Apple and Samsung, shedding its ‘flagship killer’ tag. While its previous flagships like OnePlus 7/7T Pro had few compromises, the OnePlus 8 Pro is not pulling any punches this time. Here is our first impressions of the phone, and also check out our unboxing video from our FoneArena Tamil channel.

OnePlus 8 Pro Unboxing

OnePlus 8 Box contents

  • OnePlus 8 Pro in Glacial Green color
  • 30W (5V/6A) Warp charge 30T fast charger with USB Type-C cable
  • Transparent case
  • Paper documents that include Quick start guide, Warranty, and others

The overall look and feel are similar to that of OnePlus 7T Pro except for the punch-hole camera at the front. The 8 Pro measures 8.5 mm in thickness and weighs around 199g, which again lighter than OnePlus 7T Pro. Just like 7/7T Pro, it also uses a soft-touch glass back and an aluminum frame on the sides. Also, the camera bump is a bit thicker than last year. Both sides are protected by 3D Corning Gorilla Glass, as per the company claims.

The front of the device is occupied by 6.78-inch (3168 x 1440 pixels) Quad HD+ 19.8:9 aspect ration Fluid AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate and up 1,300 nits brightness. It has a dedicated MEMC chip that transforms standard videos at 24fps up to 120 fps.

The company says that it is ideal for watching sports and action-packed content since MEMC reduces motion blur, stuttering, and ghosting for unmatched clarity. It has HDR 10+ support, tuned color accuracy rating of JNCD around 0.4.

Talking about the placement, the OnePlus 8 Pro has volume rockers on the left side and an alert slider and a lock button on the right. On the bottom, we have a dual nanoSIM tray, USB-C port, and the down-firing speaker. The button feedbacks are impressive to say.

The phone has 48-megapixel rear camera with Sony IMX689 sensor and OIS, features a 48-megapixel 120° ultra-wide angle camera with 3cm macro mode, 8-megapixel 3X Telephoto Camera that also supports 30x digital zoom, OIS and a 5-megapixel mono sensor. The phone comes with 4510mAh battery with Warp Charge 30T fast charging that can charge the phone up to 50% in just 23 minutes and is also the first OnePlus phone with support for Warp Charge 30 Wireless fast charging that can charge from 0 to 50% in 30 minutes. It is also the first OnePlus phone to come with IP68 ratings for water resistance.

We will be testing the phone under various conditions in the upcoming days. Stay tuned to FoneArena for an in-depth review. It will go on sale in India starting from June 15th in limited numbers on Amazon.in and oneplus.in.
