Qualcomm introduced its flagship Snapdragon 888 Mobile platform at its Snapdragon Tech Summit 2020 earlier this month. The latest flagship SoC has a Kryo 680 Prime Arm Cortex-X1-based CPU at up to 2.84GHz, 3 x Kryo 680 Performance A78-based CPUs at up to 2.42GHz and 4x Kryo 680 Efficiency A55-based CPUs at up to 1.8GHz. It is fabricated using the Samsung 5nm (5LPE) Process Technology. Today it has officially published the benchmarks of the SoC.
The Qualcomm Kryo 680 offers up to a 25% uplift in overall CPU performance compared to the previous generation and allows top
frequencies of up to 2.84GHz. The Qualcomm Adreno 660 GPU delivers up to 35% faster graphics rendering compared to the previous generation.
“To address feedback from OEMs, Adreno 660 GPU was specifically designed to allow for flexibility and higher power in gaming phones with a larger thermal envelope or sustained use cases in flagship devices. Each OEM can choose to select the optimal operating point for their design,” said Qualcomm.
The completely re-designed 6th generation Qualcomm AI Engine with the new Qualcomm Hexagon™ 780 processor delivers a combined 26 TOPS, a 73% increase vs the previous generation that results in industry-leading AI inferencing performances while also improving in power efficiency up to three times compared to the previous generation.
The Snapdragon 888 reference device has a 6-inch (1080 x 2340 pixels) FHD+ 120Hz screen, 12GB LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB storage. It is the first Snapdragon SoC to support LPDDR5 3200MHz, 4x16bit memory. Here is the benchmark comparison. The values are provided by Qualcomm, and the final scores are an average from three iterations, said the company.
AnTuTu Benchmark 8
The Snapdragon 888 tops the AnTuTu 8 benchmark clocking 735439 points.
Geekbench 5 Single-Core
Score from the iPhone 12 series phones powered by Apple A14 Bionic are better than the Snapdragon 888 in the Geekbench 5 Single-Core CPU benchmark.
Geekbench 5 Multi-Core
The latest iPhone models are once again slightly better than the Snapdragon 888 in the Geekbench 5 Multi-Core CPU benchmark.
Here are the values from other benchmarks
- GFXBench 5.0, Aztec Ruins Vulkan (1080p) offscreen – 86fps
- GFXBench 5.0, Manhattan 3.0 (1080p) offscreen – 169 fps
- Ludashi AIMark 2.12 – 217223
- AITuTu 1.3.0 – 911883
Commercial devices based on Snapdragon 888 are expected to be available in Q1 2021. Benchmark results may vary between the Snapdragon 888 reference design and commercial devices due to differences in performance settings, storage components, display refresh rates, timing of software updates, and more, said Qualcomm.
Xiaomi will introduce Mi 11 with Snapdragon 888 by the end of this month, ASUS ROG Phone, Black Shark, Nubia RedMagic Z series phone, OnePlus 9 series, OPPO Find X3, ZTE Axon 30, realme flagship 5G smartphone codenamed ‘Race’ and flaship phones from LG, vivo, iQOO will be powered by Snapdragon 888 in 2021. Qualcomm has also partnered with Lenovo, MEIZU, Motorola and Sharp that will launch smartphones powered by the latest flagship Snapdragon Mobile Platform.
