Amazon introduces Alexa Custom Assistant for Automakers in India

Amazon is releasing a new software solution for automakers in India and other regions in APAC, called the Alexa Custom Assistant. It contains a suite of technologies that will help automakers use Alexa’s voice AI technology to develop their own custom intelligent assistants in their vehicles.

With Alexa Custom Assistant, Amazon is trying to help automakers in the process of building an AI voice assistant, a feature that will soon become common in vehicles, and requires a lot of time and development cycles. The solution allows automakers to leverage Alexa’s spoken language understanding, intent routing, and response orchestration to create a natural, conversational experience.

An important feature in this solution is the ability for the automaker’s AI assistant and Alexa to cooperate and service the user together. The custom AI will have access to Alexa’s services and vice versa, enabling a deeper connected experience for the user.

Automakers will have access to technologies such as Alexa Skills Kit (ASK) which will enable developers to build custom skills that is based on their vehicles. Developers can create custom wake words for their particular assistant, and they can utilize Alexa’s pre-built capabilities such as local search, weather, timers, and alarms.

Amazon is rolling out the Alexa Custom Assistant to automakers in India and APAC, and one of the first automakers to use this technology is Fiat Chrysler Automobiles.
