POCO M3 Unboxing and First Impressions

POCO launched M3 its mid-range smartphone in India earlier this week. It features a 6.53-inch FHD+ display, has triple rear cameras, and comes with a 6000mAh battery. Here we have the first impressions of the phone.

Box Contents

  • POCO M3 6GB + 64GB storage version in Cool Blue colour
  • USB Type-C Cable
  • 2-pin 22.5W charger
  • SIM ejector tool
  • Clear protective case
  • User manual

The phone features a 6.53-inch (2340 × 1080 pixels) FHD+ IPS LCD Dot Drop screen which looks good, and is decent in outdoor conditions. The screen has Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. Powered by Snapdragon 662 SoC with Adreno 610 GPU, the POCO M3 packs 6GB of RAM with 64GB (UFS 2.1) / 128GB (UFS 2.2) storage options and runs Android 10 with MIUI 12 on top. The phone has a 8MP camera on the front and the usual set of Ambient Light and Proximity Sensors. The earpiece on the top edge also doubles up as a secondary loudspeaker.

The volume rockers and the power button that also comes with a fingerprint scanner are present on the right. It has dual SIM and a microSD card slot on the left arranged in a single tray. The 3.5mm audio jack is present on the top along with the IR sensor and a vent for the speaker. The primary loudspeaker speaker grill, USB Type-C port and the primary microphone are present on the bottom. It has Splash proof P2i coating.

On the back there are quad rear cameras that includes a 48-megapixel primary Samsung GM1 sensor with f/1.79 aperture, 2-megapixel macro and a 2-megapixel depth sensor with f/2.4 aperture and LED flash. The camera is decent for the price. Wish it had an ultra-wide sensor that was present in the predecessor. Check out some camera samples below.

The phone has a two-tone design with a shiny finish near the camera part and an anti-fingerprint leather-like finish below that. This offers a good grip, so you might need to use the case to prevent scratches in the top part. Even thought the phone weighs 197 grams, the weight distribution is good, so it doesn’t feel that heavy. The POCO M3 has a huge 6000mAh battery, the biggest ever in a POCO phone and supports 18W charging via USB Type-C, even though it comes with a 22.5W charger in the box.

Priced at Rs. 10,999 for the 6GB RAM with 64GB storage version, and Rs. 11,999 for the 6GB RAM with 128GB storage version, it will be available from Flipkart starting from February 9th from 12 noon. ICICI card users get a Rs. 1000 instant discount, so the effective starting price of the phone is Rs. 9999.
